I'm going up July 11th. If the switchbacks are plugged just how steep is the chute? I climbed the main route of Shasta last year(Lake Helen, up the Heart and the Red Banks, etc...). The Heart on Shasta was steep as heck. Can anyone give me a comparison?

I have done both shasta and whitney and shasta
is much harder in my opinion. Whitney is a fairly
straight forward hike on a trail. Based on conditions at the time the only off route section
is the alternate snow chute vs.the switchbacks.
The chute is about half the length of your shasta
route from Helen lake up. You should have no problems.
