Are you folks that are hiking Mt. Whitney now using plastic mountaineering boots or regular hiking boots? I have both and I'm doing Mt. Whitney on July 8. From the descriptions of the conditions above Trail Camp it sounds like plastic boots would be useful. Hiking into Trail Camp in plastic boots could be a bit of a pain. Any thoughts?

Plastic boots seem like they would be overkill....a real hassle on much of the trail where it is now dry.

Put some waterproofing on your regular hiking boots, take a couple extra pair of socks, and wear gaitors to stop the snow from getting in around your ankles. Your feet will thank you.
