Is there a safe place to leave gear at Trail Camp for the day hike up and back from there?

Yea, the spa at trail camp has lockers.

Just a drinker with a climbing problem

Probably nobody is interested in borrowing extra equipment to carry. I'm sure it will be right where you leave it when you get back to TC.

Overnight campers routinely leave tents and gear at Trail Camp while making the summit. The biggest problem would be marmots. They will chew through tents and packs to get at foodstuff.

More problems with the critters......
NOT many Low Life Thiefs, they tend to
stay near the parking lots.

we use bear canister for overnite camping in wilderness. You can rent at Whitney Portal store or Lone Pine Station.
