I found a wedding band on the trail on Sunday 6/26. I should have dropped it at the ranger station, but I forgot about it until I got home and emptied my pockets. If you or anyone you know has lost a ring, contact me. If the owner will send me a description (there is something very unique about it), I'll gladly mail it to them and even pay the postage.
It may have been lost some time ago. My suspicion is that it was lost in snow, that has since melted.
If no one claims it in a couple weeks, I'll mail it to the ranger station with a letter explaining where it was found.

Cube, you're a solid individual -- and you'll without a doubt make someone's day (year?) with the return of this ring.
Good work.

I remember a story I read on this board looong time ago. The thread was about bad hiking experiences. A woman posted she hiked up with her husband, who fell twice in the creek. Also lots of mosquitoes. She thought she lost her wedding band swatting them. I think the post is 2 years old or so by now. I'll try to find it - maybe it's really hers!

Valerie - THAT WAS ME! Can't believe someone remembers that story. I lost the diamond out of my wedding band, but not my band, to the JMT GODS. We had one catstrophy after another on that trip. We were no where near the Whitney area though but I posted our story here. This happened between Tuolumne Meadows and Agnew Meadows. Didn't scare us off though. We are trying it again and leave this weekend. Maybe I will find my diamond on this trip.

posted August 29, 2003 05:32 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I lost the diamond out of my wedding band on the JMT around Donahue Pass this past July. I think it flew out with all the "G" forces I was using to swat away all the mosquitoes. That was one expensive hike for us! Joshcube, this is a good story. You got to let us know if this was her ring.

Oh my Gosh! That is sooo funny reading that again. I can't imagine what else I wrote. We lost our tent tent too for a few minutes. As we were loading up a gust of wind came up and took it off. I remember it looked like a flying pumpkin.

chache, JoshCube found a wedding band. RTSigrist lost only the diamond out of her wedding band.
While it's a good story, have you figured out yet that it couldn't possibly be her ring?

I am a ding dong. I just skimed over the old post that was from 2003 and then posted it. I was showing my wife what a nice story it was when she pointed out my Ding Dongness.

I remember reading a story about someone losing a platinum wedding band during a winter climb. I did a search for the story but couldn't find it.

Interesting story here,
A few years ago a family friend divorced his wife after finding out that she had commited adultery. As part of the healing process, he decided one day to just up and hike Mt. Whitney. After getting most of the way up a ranger asked him if he had a permit. This guy didn't have one. After telling the ranger his situation, and that the only way he was going to come down the mountain was if two or three rangers took him down forcefully, the ranger was cool about it and let him finish the climb without further incident. A couple of years later he met a great woman to which he is currently married. This friend and his his new wife decided to climb half dome in Yosemite and throw their wedding rings from their previous marriages of the summit, shortly before they became engaged to one another.

I am sure that the climbers below appreciated being pelted by gold rings.
