I know they went through the first batch of permit requests last week. Any idea when we might hear if we got what we wanted? Anyone hear anything yet?

From the Mt. Whitney site showing permit availability:

As of February 14 th we have accepted 3071 applications for the 2007 Mt. Whitney Lottery. On February 15 we start drawing applications and making reservations. We will continue to accept applications during February. Remember, all lottery applications must be mailed during February and must have a February postmark. We can not intercept or confirm lottery applications. Applications received after February 15th will be mixed into the same ongoing lottery at the end of each business day. The calendar below will be re set to 2007 soon. The dates that have space left after the is lottery complete will be posted here approximately April first.

If you have on-line access to your credit card charges, that is the first place you will see if you get a permit.

Has anyone seen a charge yet?

I just checked my credit card charges, and nothing yet for the Whitney lottery. So, like everyone else, I keep waiting.

"REI $46.00, REI $109.25, REI $36.43, REI $42.99, REI $10.54, REI..."

Nope nothing yet.

First person to get a charge should get a prize.

And so I have now begun my annual obsessive compulsive checking of the online bank site to see what kind of letter I'll be getting later on. It's only 8:45 am and I've checked three times already today. It only gets worse as I see people posting that they have seen their cards charged. As Dr. Smith put it so well, "Oh, the pain, the pain..."

Well, my husband and I are leaving this week for the Caribbean for a couple of weeks and I won't have internet access to check my bank account. I am hoping with fingers crossed that my check gets cashed while we are away...patience, not one of my best virtues!

No charge yet. Gave about 10 choices of weekday 2-days in August and September. Mailed it Feb 1 with a confirmed receipt a few days later.

Nervous? Me? Noooooo. What gave you that idea?

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...why won't it show up on my credit card yet? (online). I think they will be calling me to ask why I look at it 15-20 times a day. Online account access is free but I just bet I have to be passing some excessivity clause!!!

Why is everybody so impatient? You still have not exhausted Steps 5 and 6 in the Wilderness Permit Options .

There is nothing wrong with checking your credit card once a day, but let's not promote obsessive behavior. You cannot control the process, so don't let it control you. That is my 2c.

I only put one date on the application, so I guess you can't call me obsessive. This way, if I see my check clear, then I definitely know what date I got (June 12-14). And if I don't get it, there are other great places to backpack, that aren't so crowded. My thought was, it'll be easier to change the destination than the date.

But no, the check hasn't cleared yet. Meanwhile, I just keep shopping for more gear...I hope I have some left to spend at the Portal Store!

VersatileFred, I'll bet you never sneaked peeks at your Christmas presents when you were a kid. Sorry to disappoint you but it's too much fun for me to stop this particular behavior. I'll exhaust steps 4 and 5 if and when I have to but, oops, if you'll excuse me it's time for me to recheck my bank page...

I have read all these posts for the last couple of years and never registered. The site sure has helped with my two trips each of the last two years. But, I just had to register so I could post and say my credit card had a hit. I had asked for 3 days in July or August, so now it's just wait and see what dates I got. Good luck all!

Mono, you are like me...REI, REI, REI, Adventure 16, REI, REI, Chevron, REI, REI, REI...

No hit on the Whit yet, but you can guarantee I am online hitting that refresh button for the latest on my statement!

Congratulations to those who got their reservation confirmations. Last year we received our RC on March 1 so anything is possible. Heck, you may even get your RC before your statement posts!

NOW, WHERE'S MINE DOGGONE IT! smile

Journey well...
