I was wondering if anyone knows if Grandview Campground fills early on the weekends. Are there sites available on Saturday afternoon? I was also wondering if anyone had experience camping along the dirt roads near the campground.

Rightstar, I camp at Grandview several times a year and have only seen it full once. When we go up there, we actually prefer to camp at one of the 4-5 campsites on the dirt road to the mine behind the campground. Those sites have fantastic views of the Sierras.

Thanks cristin for responding to my post. The information will come in handy when I go to Grandview Campground on a weekend.

Gonna depend upon which weekend - I was there Sat. Aug. 5 and it was full to the gills and overflowing down the mine road! But that's because the Barcroft gate was open on Sunday, Aug. 6 for Open House. It will be open again on Sunday of Labor day, Sept. 3, but no open house - but you can drive to the station and that cuts 4 miles off the White Mountain hike!!

We were up there last weekend, busy for the open house. Grandview was full by the time we got there, but one of our party scouted out an escavation site about 1/2 mile up from the campground. A dirt road off to the right of the main paved road as you drive up, then left into an open area.
