Camikema, you just did San G!? If you did that in trail runners, you're already set.
If you want a cool trail in this area to train over the winter, check the San Jacinto Message Board for a link about Cactus to Clouds. I've done that trail a few times in the winter - it starts at 450' elevation and ends up at the tram at 8600' elevation. That's more elevation gain than Whitney, and as it starts lower, it makes for a better cardio workout. Also, since you take the tram back down, it saves the pounding on your feet, knees, etc.
I may see you on the trail if you go next weekend. I'm hoping to go up there in the next week or two. If we see each other, I'll be in NB 806's - they're like the 400 series, only better in my experience. I love 'em, and Montrail Hardrock. Either one is great - though the Montrails have a hardened toe, which is nice if you kick an occasional rock. Since I do mostly trailrunning, that's a real benefit.
Hope to see you on the trail, either there or here locally!
