I am planning on summiting Whitney via Meysan lake. I have been to both the summit and Meysan lake a number of times, so I am a familiar with the areas. What I would like to know is if there is any snow left in the chutes that are on the far side of Meysan lake that lead up to the LaConte-Mallory Pass. If anybody has been there and can post a report, I would appreciate it. Thank You in advance.

I looked up there last Sunday (8/27) from the Portal road for the express purpose of checking the snow. I didn't take a picture, but the bad news is that the snow reaches only about halfway up the couloirs now.

If you have climbed any of those couloirs when the snow was gone, you will know what I mean by "bad news."

I climbed the North Ridge of Lone Pine Peak yesterday (Sept 1) and got a good look at the chutes. There is very little snow on most of them. It seems like there are always three streaks of snow that always stay until fairly late versus the rest of the snow. They descend down from LeConte. They are practically all melted out. To the right there is a chute with more snow in it though but like Bob said it only appears to cover about half the slope.
