I just wanted to put in my $0.02 about Hike Along Video. I just got my $24.95 "Entire Trail" DVDs last night and skipped around watching the Trail Crest, Windows, and summit chapters.

I spent a lot of money last year preparing for my trip with buying maps, gear, and books. This DVD was, by far, the best money I've spent educating myself on the trail. Pete does an EXCELLENT job recording exact distances, time, and elevation along the entire trail. I can't recommend these DVDs enough! You really, honestly, feel like you're on the trail!

Great job, Pete!

mchiker - you-re right on about hikealongpete's dvd's. They are better than amy book that you'll read about the MMWT by far. I think that anyone who will be doing the hike for the first time would make a wise investment by purchasing the dvd's. I have them, and are letting my friends who will be joining me this summer on the trail for the first time borrow them to review and prepare.

I always laugh and say that I summited Whitney a dozen times before I actually got there. HAP made that post about a month before I went on the trip, and I practically memorized the videos, so much that I actually recognized many objects along the trail and the areas. A bit of deja vu, too, like I had been there before. :-)

His vids for Half Dome are also amazing: they really helped me overcome my fear of edges before going up the cables!

Thanks again, Pete!

On my first trip up the main trail, I was fortunate enough to go with people who had hiked it before. A number of first timers do not have that luxury. Watching a video is a great way to put landmarks in perspective and is a great training tool. It is a good investment for hikers on their first trip up the main trail.
