A couple of us are going to hike the trail from Lone Pine campground to the Portal. Does anyone know what the conditions are at the Portal, or, the trail from Lone Pine campground?

As of Sunday afternoon there was only an inch or two of snow on the ground and the road up to the Portal was clear.

Above the Ledges on the North Fork trail the snow was falling hard. It made for an interesting decent of the Ledges but it was feasible without ropes.

Any hiking above Lower Boyscout Lake definitely requires snowshoes.

The trail should be all dry now. The Portal had a little fresh snow on Sunday afternoon but it was not sticking very far below there. Depending on when you plan to go I think it will be mostly dry if not completely dry.
