So sorry to hear of your mom's passing. What a wonderful gift that you could share that last moment with her. Congratulations on your summit. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Great story and congradulations on your accomplishment. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. Cancer sucks!!! Good news is that she is suffering no more.
I have been real reflective of my own life as I face my own prostate cancer battle. I plan to summit MW in 2 weeks as a metaphor for my cancer survival. I read "boogers" comments on another thread where he mentions the benefits that he receives from being in the Sierras. I am looking forward to the cathartic and healing benefit of the mountain experience.

David, my condolences to you and your family. I lost my father to renal failure and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura back in March of this year, but it was his decision not to continue living because of the excruciating pain. I will hike Mt. Whitney in August in memory of my father. David, the news you conveyed to your mother that you made it to the top made her heart good. I am sure she was very proud of you pursuing your dream during the final moments of her precious life. Whenever you return to Mt. Whitney, your mother's spirit will encompass you in her warm embrace and guide you. When you stand on top once more, she will see you standing there and smile and say, "You did well, my son! Welcome to my new home."

Journey well...

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. It's wonderful that you could call her when you did. I'll never again frown at someone making a cell phone call from the summit!

Cancer, damn cancer! mad
My son and I were training to climb Mt. Rainier in March 2006 when I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Surgery and 6 mo of Chemo postponed the trip, but we are at it again.
Friday we start our attempt to climb all 16 of the 14ers on the west coast. We hope to make at least 14, calling our effort: ClimbSTRONG-14 peaks over 14,000 feet to raise $14,000. Lance Armstrong's books and extreme attitude helped me through my fight, so we are raising the money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Cancer can really ruin your day, and can actually kill you - but there is no reason not to fight back with a vengeance smile
Thoughts and prayers for you and your family David101. wink
Give 'em hell DocRodneyDog! grin
