I am ready (I think!) to finally complete the loop from Cottonwood Lakes via New Army Pass to the Portal and will begin on 6/27 or 6/28.
I called High Sierra Transportation and was quoted $120 for 1-5 people for the ride to Cottonwood TH from the Portal. I prefer not to pay that much just for me, so is there anyone else going that way that needs a ride? If so, let me know and we can split the cost. Or if anyone is going out that way anyway, and can give me a lift from the Portal, I'd gladly pay a reasonable amount. No matter what, I'm going! Just trying to save a few bucks. Thanks!

That price is disgusting, high gas prices or not. High Sierra Transport needs to make a living off of you and only you, apparently.

I bet you'd have little trouble just hitching there. Anyone leaving the Portal could at least take you to the intersection with Horseshoe Meadow Road; from there you could hitch to the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead.

I picked up two hitchhikers last July heading out there (as was I). They said they have only been waiting about 5 minutes. I wouldn't think you should have too much trouble getting a ride there.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the idea. I had thought about that, but didn't want to depend on it as it is mid-week. I was up there in August last year and only saw a few cars. That area doesn't seem to get as much traffic as the Portal. I think the shuttle service is out of Bishop, so that may be why the price is so high. Oh well...
