Is anyone going up the main trail on July 22? I hope to be on the trail around 1am. I summited June 21 2007 with 3 other girl friends & I felt like the trail was safe even when hiking alone. But this time I will be alone the entire day. any suggestions?

by july 22, the main trail will look like a parade has come to town. you probably won't go more than a few minutes without seeing other people. i wouldn't sweat it.

DMB,
I might be interested. Are you still holding a permit?

I have 3 more. Are they even needed for doing the mountaineering route? I'll probably return via the main trail though....

I believe that anyone on the mountain is required to have a permit.
Also I went solo last year without a problem, but be aware that if you run into trouble you will need to rely on your self only. People near you may not be aware of your difficulty if they cannot see or hear you... Cell phones are useless except on top and getting assistance in a timely fashion is unlikely.

In short--know your limits and be smart about overreaching.

I am hiking solo Monday 16 July. I've been up there a few times and have no worries at all. Slow and steady wins the race, as some smart guy once said. And since I've been up top already, I won't cry if I find a reason not to summit.
