I was wondering if anyone has a fairly accurate up-to-date status of the fires burning in the Eastern Sierras? The newspapers are pretty vague as to what is reported, and I have found that the best information has been gotton from this message board.

My wife and I have had s cabin booked at Glacier Lodge, west of Big Pine, for four months now. We were to arrive next Tuesday, and leave on the Friday. For now, we are on hold, pending what happens these next few days. Glacier Lodge was one of the areas evacuated last week, mainly as a safety precaution.

Any information provided would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I found this yesterday on the inciweb site. Looks like Glacier Lodge is now open. Also, call the Inyo ranger office in Lone Pine. They gave me alot of info on closures.

Acting Forest Supervisor Marlene Finley has announced some important road openings within the Inyo Complex fire area. The Glacier Road, providing access to the campgrounds, cabins, and trailheads of Big Pine Canyon, as well as Glacier Lodge and Glacier Pack Trains, reopened at 10:00 am Tuesday morning. Onion Valley Road was also reopened to Upper and Lower Grays Meadow Campgrounds and Seven Pines recreation residence tract. The rest of the road up to Onion Valley may open as early as Tuesday evening.

The Baxter Pass and Oak Creek roads will remain closed until further notice due to fire activity in the area.

Wilderness permits are now being issued for the trailheads at Shepherd Pass and in Big Pine Canyon.
