Is there anyone out there who has an extra day hike permit for Sept. 23rd? My friend needs one.

Your friend should show up at the Lone Pine ranger station on the 22nd. I'm quite sure he or she will get a canceled or unclaimed reservation. I think unclaimed reservations become available at noon(?).

Unfortunately I think such trafficking/buying/selling/transferring wilderness permits will cause problems for the rest of us who do follow the rules.

Cancellations become available at 11 am. Permits that are not picked up by noon become available at 2 pm.
