I'm planning a long hike that would require meeting porters at either Bishop Pass or Piute Pass, who would resupply me and my companion with about 20-25 pounds of food/fuel and would then carry out our accumulated trash (estimated 5 pounds). Anyone spring to mind?

I'll gladly do it depending on when. I live in Big Pine over the summer. email me: bruce.willey@gmail.com and we'll discuss price, time, etc.

This sounds like a BS thread from a few years back. Porters? Your kidding right.

No, I certainly am not kidding.

Any takers? I'm looking to have a re-supply around Upper Basin (accessible from the Owens Valley via Taboose Pass) and maybe Piute Pass a week later. This would be late August to early September.

Again, this would not be back-breaking labor, and in fact it should be an enjoyable day hike for which I will gladly pay the individual(s).

Any info would be helpful.

You're just not going to get much response here. The only ones interested were the guys above.

Why don't you email them directly or send a PM? (wink's email is in his profile.)

PS: A 'nice dayhike' up Taboose? I heard that's a beast of a pass!! eek

Some of our guides will do porter work. If plume or moose tracks can't help you get in touch and I can help you. Drop an email to info@sierramountaineering.com.

This topic brought back a memory from last summer on my descent. Some hikers at this point look like they're ready to drop. If some of the local Lone Pine teenagers stood at Lone Pine Lake and offered to carry your pack down for a niminal fee, I think they could make some descent change. Not from me of course, but maybe from somebody that isn't so cheap or stuborn. Now, if they were carrying a chilled six-pack, that would be another story.

In fact, maybe I could move to Lone Pine.......

Well, if you call 6,000 vertical feet in 7 miles a beast, then yes, but it makes up for it with fine trail tread: loose football-sized rock up top and soft sand at the bottom.
