The BV500 is now advertised on the BearVault website; I think it replaces the BV400.

By early May we will be offering the BV500. The only difference with the current BV400 is that the lid now has two bumps to press in instead of one; also the decal is now round so that is does not point to the bump any longer.

These changes were to address a bear at Marcy Dam in the Adirondacks who learned to press in the bump with her incisor tooth and unscrew the lid until she could pry it off. She is still hibernating, so we won't know until late May/early June after field trials with her if this new lid fools her or not.

The BV500 is the same weight, size and cost as the BV400.

There have been no problems with the current models (BV350 Solo/BV400) outside of the Marcy Dam area and they are fully certified for use in the Sierras.

Good luck with your new model. I hope it works out.

Awhile back I was wondering if that smart bear was a female because mother bears teach their cubs.
