I haven't been to the west side, so I'm not sure what the scene is. My question is whether I can reliably get a ride from someone in the parking lot at Lodgepole to Cedar Grove. Or could there even be a shuttle?

There's the Sequoia Shuttle, which goes from Lodgepole to some other areas in Sequoia. I don't see Cedar Grove mentioned, but it also goes out to Visalia. It runs through Labor Day weekend.

I don't know if the shuttle goes down into Cedar Grove. But the majority of people you will see at Lodgepole, or anywhere else on the west side, are of the national park tourist variety. I don't know how much luck you would have hitching a ride. I have never had to consider it because I live in Visalia and I can always get rides from my wife or friends.

I hitched a ride from Cedar Grove to Lodgepole last year.

I originally tried to hitch directly from Cedar Grove to Lodgepole but did not have much luck. The ranger suggested I do it in two stages - Cedar Grove to Grants Grove and then Grants Grove to Lodgepole. I did her suggestion and it took me less than 5 minutes to get a ride at each place doing it in the two stages.
