I am with Inyo County Search and Rescue and Saturday, while my partner and I were in search of a missing hiker on the the Whitney Trail, we met two gentleman desending the trail. One of the men mentioned they had brought way too much food, I at this moment realized I had completely forgotten to replenish my energy food in my "ready" pack, from the last mission I had been on. So I asked if they would mind sharing their food with us, both men were more than generous. SO I would just like to publicly thank them for being so kind, it is always a pleasure to meet such good people in such a beautiful place. My only regret, is that I forgot your names, so please reply, cause I really want a copy of that peanut butter bar recipe, they were damn good.
Tim
PS The mission had a successful and happy ending!

I am Roberto (Rtestdoc) and I gave you the peanout butter balls. My partner was Mike. I am glad if we were able to help, even a little. By the time we got down to the parking lot, we heard the hiker's pack was found and he had gone to the summit. I am glad it turned out well. I promised you the recipe for the peanut butter balls and here it is, Enjoy it and share it with others. See you on the trail.

Roberto

Original Recipe from internet (www.backpacking-guide.com/backpacking-recipes.html)

2 cups crunchy peanut butter
1 cup milk powder (for protein)
Add honey (stir in until it tastes sweet enough)
1/4 cup softened unsalted butter (1/2 a stick)
Add in whatever you want (nuts, raisins, sunflower seeds, soy nuts)
Stir in a handful of quick oats (regular oats are too big)
Roll the ball in oats to make it less sticky to handle.

Actual recipe used was only one quarter of the above and it still made enough to form four bars about the size of a granola bar.

1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
1/4 cup milk powder
Didn't measure honey but probably used at least 1/4 cup
1 tablespoon softened unsalted butter (1/8 of a stick)
A large handful of Albertson's mixed nuts (included peanuts, pecans, almonds & cashews)
A large handful of sunflower seed kernels
A large handful of Nestle's milk chocolate chips (found in baking aisle)
A large handful of quick oats
Mix all the above together and then put more quick oats on a piece of wax paper, divide your mixture into 4 parts, and roll each one gently in the oats while making them any shape you want. Store in refrigerator to firm them up more.
