That nice warm weather last week is gone , and a little wind so bring an anchor the next few days and expect ice on the area above 11000' and I think after the wind stops the cold air mass will stay several days, then more wind to move that out. So watch the slopes for ice. Temps dropped in the portal all day. Thanks Doug

Another quick update, started snowing about 3AM in the Portal and has about 2 inches on the ground, that means it snowed more to cool the ground to hold the snow so, I would expect the upper elevations are also covered with fresh snow , if we get sun today most will clear . Thanks Doug

Thanks, Doug! 6" on Mammoth Mountain last night, 2" in Town of Mammoth, 1" at Tom's Place. Still clouds here up north, but clearing with the sunrise. Wow! What a switcher! smile

I was in that "little wind" at Trail camp on 5/20 and I'd hate to see strong wind if that is little!

Hi Plese read the trip reports from this weekend and see why we tend to not think Trailcamp is the first choice, also note the wind factor and the snow level reports some chest deep some knee deep and how the weather from the valley to the mountains was so different , one can find drifts in certain parts of the area and one can follow wind blown slabs and this can be within several hundred feet.
So when you see the spread of conditions you are seeing the same mountain from different paths and if you are a first timer it will be hard to follow the best path and conditions, the trail is 11 miles to the summit it takes many times up to understand the lay of the land .
We had some snow starting Wed. around 3AM in the Portal and we had snow every day , the sun came out this afternoon and most of the snow in the Portal is gone and it looks like much of the snow up to Lone Pine Lake melted , This tells nothing about in the morning or next week and that is the critical point people need to understand about the weather and mountains. Stay dry and stay safe, all weekend long people made sound calls and turned back when conditions tested the gear or experience levels. Thank You Doug
