I was just out for a hike, and turned around at switchback #23. There is still a fair amount of snow from that recent storm, but it is fine for walking--at least during the day. The return of warm weather should make short work of it.

From the people I talked to who were on their way out, most had gone to Trail Crest via the switchbacks; a handful tackled the slope, but it was tedious. For the descent I guessed that about half are using the switchbacks and half the slope.

Reports are that what snow remains on the switchbacks is of little concern. Nice tracks to follow in. A little icy in the morning.

A few pictures.

Thanks for the report. My group has a permit for the main trail on 6/21 and we are keeping a steady eye on the conditions as we are not trained to used crampons. Its sounds like the switchbacks and etc should be in good shape by then. BUT of course I'm going to keep checking for changes.

My thanks too Bob. Our group of ten for 6-28 has a ten year old in it. This will be better news for him, okay, his mother.

Thanks again, BobR!

Getting better by the day. Now to pray things remain that way...

Go the crampons and ice-ax reserved in any case.
