hello all,

we have a day pass to do whitney on june 30, doesn't sound like we'll need ice axes, but just wanted to check if anyone has any differing opinions.

thanks for your help!

Great question. I'm going from the 26th to the 29th and I was also wondering about ice axes and crampons.
After this heatwave, I would think some of that snow and ice has melted.

If you've recently climbed Whitney in the last 5 day, please post!

Thanks!

CLICK on the picture to see the rest.

Here's 6/20 as well...

NO WIND on the summit, probly 50-60 degrees at the top. No ice axe needed, no crampons... lots of water on the switchbacks at 20ish...
LOTS of mosquitos on the way down! YUCK! long sleeves and netting would have been awsome...

Well im not sure about the regular route, but i just completed the Mountaineers route on the 20th and there was still snow in the chute and i Glisaded all the way down , so i would recomend and ice ax and crampons , cause if you get a alpine start you can walk right up the chute , no prroblems , later in the day it got soft , you could kick step with out but I still prefered to were crampons. Good luck
