Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Water Sources...

For those of you who have been up there in the past couple of weeks... can you tell me what the water sources are looking like? I know that Whitney only got about 67% of her average snowpack this winter and I'm wondering how long it looks like the meltoff will run... we're trying to decide how much water we need to pack in and how avaliable running water will be to collect from.

Just take a look at the "Orientation notes for Whitney first timers", click on Water. There is another link or two in there, also a PDF listing the 12 reliable water sources on the trail.

The easiest thing to do is go look at your map. Every single strategic water source along the MMWT is there. If you do this, there will be no water surprises.
