A friend and I are hoping beyond hope to score an overnight permit for the North Fork, Lone Pine Creek, entering on September 4th or 5th,and staying for the weekend. We are asking if anyone has a permit for those days that they will not be using, if they could let me know when they plan to call the Forest Service to cancel it, so I might call immediately after and hope to obtain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We hope to go up over Cleaver Col and bag a few peaks in the Tulainyo Lake area. Thanks ahead of time, Bill.

The day before you hike, be at any one of the Inyo National Forest ranger stations (Lee Vining, Mammoth, Bishop, Lone Pine) at 11 AM, when the walk-in permits become available. 40% of those permits are available on a walk-in basis, so there should be 4 available at that time. I think your chances should be pretty high.

Not sure when "no-show" permits for those overnight permits become available -- maybe the day of your hike (I'd call the permit office and ask about them), but chances are good that you might get those, too.

Just pick an alternate trip to use for plan B, but I don't think you will need it.

Our plan B is to do the things mentioned above, which we have done in the past for NFLPC permits. It's just I am hoping someone that has a permit and has a change in plans can let us know ahead of time of cancelling their permit and we can get a jump on getting it. Thanks

Tim,
Starting thinking up some ideas of what you would like to do.
If you leave it to me, you might not like them. LOL

Still looking for any N.F.L.P.C. overnight permits starting either Sept. 4th or 5th that might be going unused. Would appreciate a heads up if they are going to be turned back in. Thanks, Bill

Still looking for an unused permit for the North Fork going in over night on September 4th or 5th. Hope to go over Cleaver Col and get a few peaks in the area and get some pictures of Tulainyo under late afternoon light conditions.
