Hi,

IO already explained my problem on this forum ... some months ago i didn't need a permit for the mountaineersroute/russell.

Nowadays you need one for that route too.

Coming from belgium to do whitney and russell it's a big pain in the ass! I wanne search for other options but i really have to be sure about spending some night at iceberg lake and lower boyscout ...

Anyone who could help me about this stupid situation?

Your best change of getting a Walk in permit would be Friday the 19th of September. 40% of the North Fork permits are held back for walk in backpackers. If your group is small, you have a fairly good chance they will be available. By September, school is back in session and there are less climbers on the mountain during the week. Saturdays and Sundays are still busy.

You might know that overnight permits are picked up the day before, at 10:00 am. By 11:00 am the reserved permits not picked up are also available

Overnight permits can be picked up as early as 48 hours in advance. If you do not pick it up by 10 a.m. the day of entry, you lose the permit. This was confirmed by Walter at the Eastern Sierra InterAgency Center this morning. This is the rule for MWMT, but I am not sure if it is the same for other trail heads as well.
