I was thinking of bringing my flyrod if there were any trout in these lakes. Does anyone know?

I've caught lots of Golden Trout out of Guitar, but I do not know whether or how (by nature?) it is stocked. I've camped at UBSL many times, but don't remember seeing any signs of trout. I've never fished Arctic. I think you could have fun fly-fishing from the Portal up and over the passes.

I have seen fish in Artic Lake. I was surprised by the sight. I don't know how big they were though.

UBSL seemed freshly stocked in the middle of July. We caught/released quite a few 12" - 15" trout.

Kevin, its me John. Aren't the folks on this board great. Bring back lots of pics. Check with the guys at the hardware store in Lone Pine for the current low down on the local fishing. They had lots of advice about lures, flies, baits, barb/barbless. You can get your out of state license there also. Enjoy. Call me when you get back.

I love to fish, and recently took a fly fishing class at Cal-Poly and of course bought all the gear (you should see my new Patagonia fishing vest). With practice in the backyard, I have managed to snag everything, the house, trees, the back of my shirt, etc.(the neighbor's cat...just kidding). I heard, and can't wait to try..., Cottonwood Lakes and Crabtree Lakes are great for goldens!!!

The fishing is very good at UBSL and Guitar Lake.Never tried Arctic.I'm a huge fan of backcountry fishing.I almost always try to hike where there are lakes and streams and pack either my fly rod or a small ultra light spinner.I'm going up today to spend the weekend at Cottonwood Lakes and hiking Langley and Cirque and looking forward to some fishing.Good luck

I was up at Cottonwood in July. Bring small flies, size 22 or smaller for the evening rise.
There are some NICE Goldens up there. Good luck.
