I have this time off from work if I want it. Obviously it's hard to forecast September weather, as this frequently is the month when "the first big snowfall" comes in.

Has anyone done this before? This would be a genuine "autumn" hike of the JMT. I wonder if anyone has done it or whether I might be the first.

There will likely be hundreds out there with you. This is quite popular.

The main issue is that the days are shorter, which means you do some hiking in the dark, or do short mileage days, and a longer trip.

However, many people find this the nicest time of the year to go.
No bugs, streams easy to cross, fish hungry, permits easy to get, many fewer people.

It's a great time to hike.

Oh, and the snow is usually later.
