Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board Permit availabilty?

Hoping to grab (4) day permits and head up the MR on October 4th. My main concern now is if we will be able to get the permits or not(and the weather). So, does anybody no what the availability of day permits have been like recently? Thanks!

I walked in a got a Whitney Zone permit for both Saturday and Sunday of the Labor Day weekend (two separate trips to the VC). As Doug stated elsewhere, we're at the tail end of the season, and getting walk-in permits shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Richard, it is interesting to note that at the end of the day on Saturday, 8/30, of the weekend, they had no more day hike permits available. (From "Unused Whitney Permits - 2008")

I wish there were a way to determine just how many walk-in permits were available at the starting point (2 PM day-before) on each date. And it would be nice to know just when they reached that zero number. But I am really happy that they are at least giving us the end-of-the-day number for each day.
