Anyone have any updates on Telescope Peak? Does the trail have any snow yet? I am thinking of heading up next week sometime. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
The road up has had some damage due to the recent storms. I took a pounding on the motorcycle and know that I wouldn't be able to get the Sentra up there anymore. High clearance is probably necessary until they do some road work.
I did it 10/24. Trail was in good shape. There was some snow in the shadows, but none on the trail. I don't know what, if anything, fell with the weekend storms.
A friend and I are heading up there this Wednesday in my Subaru Outback. Hopefully, the road isn't TOO wrecked. I'll post conditions when we return.
Your Outback will be fine up there. The dirt roads got a little bit rutted from the rain, but there's nothing that's real deep. The only problem would be with a low ground clearance vehicle (like the Sentra I like to drive up to the mountains).
Just got back from hiking Telescope. Last 3 miles of road is rutted, but easily doable (slowly) in my Outback. Any auto with decent ground clearance should be able to make it. It got down to about 30 degrees at the campground (Mahogany Flat) with cold gusty winds. Temps on the trail in the 40's, but again, cold wind gusts forcing repeated stops to add or remove layers (PITA!). Zero snow on the ground. Great hike. Surprisingly, saw four other hikers up there today including a young couple from Spain doing a tour of western US parks.
