I was finally successful on my summit attempt this summer smile ( yaa! third time's a charm ( yes!, it's taken me three summers! ) )

I was surprised how small the open part of the hut is in comparison to the rest of the hut. What is in the unopen part of the hut? research equipment? SAR cache? empty air?

It's quite a shock to most, but even Starbucks had to cut back from 24/7 operation on the Whitney summit after the economic meltdown.

I have only seen the west side of the hut open one time. We went inside and looked around. It seemed at least twice as big as the open side. It was mostly empty except for some emergency/ first aid supplies and bottled water.

Perhaps Dougs new Hostel location yet to be finished? I suggest a Lone Pine web cam...
