I believe Richard said he was going to close the board for good due to the lack of activity. He did mention that he was going to try and archive the threads somewhere so anyone can access them.
Richard, I'm with Steve. There is a lot of great material on that Board. I can understand a decision to kill the board if traffic is just not there, although it is quite far from the first board I'd get rid of if I ran the Internet. If you decide to do it in, I agree that it would be nice to have access to an archive.
Yeah, what they said Richard! It has been slow for some time over there, but it's also been real friendly-like, you know? It does have a lot of useful information on it, so an archive would be excellent. Thanks, Dave.
The server the board was running on had just become too unreliable, so this last time it went down, I decided I wasn't going to put in the effort to troubleshoot it.
The database is intact, so I can get it back up.
When I get the time (not likely any time soon with my hectic winter schedule), I will get the site up somewhere where I won't have to worry about system failures.
Good to hear that some people miss it. Apologies for losing access to it.
Many of us were faithful readers of the Mt. Whitney site. Over time the traffic kind of died down, but there is still a bunch of great information on that link. I hope it comes back. I miss it. It fills a void for places other then the Mt. Whitney trail.
Hey Richard, Thanks for running the Whitney-info board. It was great sharing stories, photos and good times around your virtual campfire. Hope to see you again up in the mountains. Cheers, RickG
Adding to what Bob said, the emergence of active boards for the San Gabriels and San Jacinto diluted the participation on Richard's board. Before giving it up for good, it might be worth hyping it a bit on the other boards.
I agree that Richard's board was very welcome when the WPS one was having a lot of troll trouble. It has also served as a vehicle for carrying on some serious discussions that were killed on the WPS board (the lightning one from the fall of 2007 comes to mind). I really thank Richard for keeping up a board that has been both open and relatively free of some of the excesses that crop up elsewhere.
