And don't forget that Kurt won't be able to resist the temptation to have a group hike up Baldy in conjunction with these clinics.

Yes we'll have to do another Baldy hike. I don't know yet which day will work best but once I do know I'll post it here. It looks like we'll have more snow to work with smile

OK, I'm going out on a limb in stating that I promise I'll show up on the third of April.

I think I'm going to make this a climb (Maybe a ski ride if SoCal has a slow melt?), a trip to the WLA show and a visit to my mother's house. (It's going on the calendar right now.)

Cool! Looking forward to it.

I'm 0-2 on the last trips. The flake factor is definitely starting to accumulate. I'll be there. Actually I've been avoiding finally meeting Moose because I'm worried about the Mt Pancake jokes....

Is anyone interested , besides me , in a storm hike up Baldy on Sunday the 15th ?
I would like to take the time to get to the summit . The plan is to post hole in wet , cold miserable weather and thereby increase my fitness level .
The plan would be to meet at the Baldy Village Ranger station at 6am sharp . If the road is clear then proceed to Manker Flats . I should point out that sadly I do not have a key to the hut .I would expect to be back at the cars by 3pm .....ish .
Any takers ?

I had a great day on Baldy on Sunday ! I went with my friend from England , George Armstrong . We had breakfast in Josh around 230 am and hit the trail at 635 am from Manker Flats . It was cold and clear with some thin clouds high in the sky.
We encountered knee deep powder on the south ridge , the summit was windy , clear with a good hard surface , excellent !
We took the quick way back down the central gully .
1200 feet down in about 15 minutes .
I have pictures posted on my Facebook profile.

Cool! Since it's my new addiction, I'll try to grab some skis for this one, too. Maybe then I can make it down faster than Mike! (but not by much, I know...) wink

Bump...

I had to backtrack on another trip to Park City because I remembered that I've committed to this. Here's hoping we have a fun day in the snow!

An unfortunate sign of the times -- the Costa Mesa A16 store is closed.

I assume that Kurt's hikes transcend mere bad news.

Yeah you guys beat me to it. I just got off the phone with the folks at Adventure 16 and the Costa Mesa store closed down last week.

Because the crowds were so big at this location every time I gave a show there I'm going to ask a public opinion on this:

The Camp has an outside area where they've been showing movies. I could still do the Whitney presentation there. They have the space, chairs, and projector to make it all happen. The question is if I planned it would people still attend?

Let me know your thoughts either here or via email. Thanks!

Kurt - Your presentations are great. If you have a Costa Mesa talk, I'll go there. Otherwise, I'll attend the WLA talk.

Thanks,
Mark

Yeah - I can't help but think that the new REI in Huntington Beach put the nails in the coffin of the Costa Mesa A16. The REI Santa Ana store has been there for a while, but it is old, and hard to get to. The Huntington Beach store is a nice big, new, attractive store right off the freeway. Not to mention that REI has better prices and an online store.

Oh well....

Kurt, It looks like got the Friday off work, and I am "IN" for the April 3rd MT Badly fun in the snow hike. See you at Manker Flats.

Any word yet on if you are going to put on the second half of your MT Whitney presentation somewhere in the Costa Mesa area as a alternative location to the A-16 store that closed?

I'll be there if you do.
