Alarm is set for 3:30am and the Do Not Disturb sign is going up now.

Hope the winds aren't as severe as they are up here!

SPOT On advice Mike (get it?).

Winds at 10 from the west - I can live with that. Out here in the desert, they're blowing in the thirties (hope I stay on the road).

Great day today, gang. We had a dozen hardy souls brave the weather and wind (which wasn't so bad, really!), half of us heading up the remnants in the Bowl and the rest hitting the regular trail to the ridge. We were above the clouds all day, and I even broke out the shorts for the hike. NICE!

Pics will be up Monday/Tuesday. Headed for Josh tomorrow to leave some skin on the rocks. Woohoo!

Congrats to Betsy on her first Baldy summit! A nice excuse to come down for the weekend.

Ok, guys...play fair! If you post links to photos of people, please try to indicate names, so we know who is who. It makes it more like we were there.

Wait a minute. You mean that's not you, kneeling on the far right? Must be your twin, then.

BTW, if anyone hears of a PhotoGPS device being found somewhere near the bottom of the climb, I'm missing one.

Let's see, a camera and expensive lens a couple of years ago. A water bottle and PhotoGPS this last trip up. Is Baldy trying to tell the Sierra Snob that he should stay up north?

This is probably a long shot, but someone found a camera near the ski hut on Friday the 3rd.

Dr. Murray always comes up during conversations on these Group Climbs. Perhaps he should show up so that we aren't talking behind his back?

Hello Richard ,

I heard from Laura that you rode your motorbike up the dirt road to the Mt Split trailhead a while back . I am interested in having a look at the East Couloir on Split . Do you know if I can ride my BMW R 1150 GS up the approach road . The bike is heavy and pretty good on most stuff except deep soft sand. I would appreciate your in put .
I enjoyed looking at your photos from your two recent trips to Whitney .

cheers from Joshua Tree ,

Simon

Another reason to be jealous of a fellow board member. I think this is the bike Len and Bill want me to buy so we can ride together. (It would be a joke trying to keep up with them on my 230.)

In answer to the question: Yes, I'm pretty certain that you could get up there with your bike. I been up both the Tinemaha Campground and Big Pine (McMurray Meadows) approaches multiple times. The McMurray Meadows Road approach is much easier, but a longer ride in. There is only a short section of really rocky terrain on this approach. The road is soft in places, but not too bad. (I'd guess no deeper than a few inches. If you've ridden any of the desert terrain, you'll know what I'm talking about.) Heading up from Tinemaha Campground involves a LONG section that will test your Trials Riding ability. (I put a nice dent in my frame one day when the front tire kicked up a rock that nailed one of the frame members below the engine.)
