Hi Last week I drove the old system up to Bishop to give to the newspaper so they could set it up and add a picture for the north end of the Valley , shorth story they did not want the system. I may try the Bishop Chamber and see if they can find a high point and use the system , Last year fishmonger was out and showed us a devcice that would rotate and shoot pictures at each stop , something like this in Bishop would be great you could catch the Sierra into Bishop Creek, Mount Tom ,up 395 and around to White Mountain and southeasterly the Whites and Inyos.

I also want to check and see if we can put a better zoom on the frame the webcam is using now the model is a olympus sp-500uz I bought a much better camera last year but it would not send the digital signal out in the correct format , so unless a software has created the transfer program we might be stuck with this body.

A simple overview of what the webcam does: 24 hour power supply, a simple computer, internet signal, a camera and timed images, then sends the image to the ftp address .
This worked very easy using analog. We had a hi 8 camcorder and it ran all the time and would capture an image using webcam32 software and sent it through a phone line to the ftp.

Mike from SeBecTec.com has done a great job making the system work but our remote distance adds another level (line of sight could be 12-13 miles and shooting into the sun during the afternoons )of problems. So we have tried to keep it a simple system but a better zoom would help the North Fork hikers and climbers. Thanks Doug

Check out yesterday's timelapse before it's replaced. It doesn't do justice to what we saw live yesterday evening... just the most outstanding way to end the year. (You can also look at the photo archive.) I'm bummed that I had put the camera in my pack and was too tired to fish it out.

Noticed that the web-cam caught another bird as I was looking to see how much spindrift there is today:

The webcam shot is cool at his moment. A crow is caught in flight across the face of the Needles.

the current picture (from 7:35:14)--see the lights? are those flashlights or just spots on the camera? if they're flashlights, those are certainly interesting places to be after dark...

Doug,

I'm happy to see the webcam is back up and running. It looks likes you've had some interesting weather hanging around over the last few days.

During the week I'm largely a desk jockey but I check in on the Portal once or twice per day to see what I'm missing.
