An associate related to me that she had watched a Stephen King movie, where the story was to have taken place in Alaska. In it, there was a scene taken from a helicopter, and it flew through one of the windows between Trail Crest and the summit. She couldn't remember the title.

Does anyone recall the movie? Maybe we could locate a clip of the Whitney part.

I remember, King's movie "The Thing" was somewhere in Alaska, but can't recall scene with helicopter.
New "Ironman" movie is recorded most of the part in Alabama Hills, but they avoided to show Whitney as is easy recognizable peak.

I can't really recall one of his movies that took place in Alaska other then the one already mentioned. I was thinking maybe they mistook 30 days of night as a King movie... but I don't remember a helicopter scene in that and I think it was filmed in New Zealand. There was Dreamcatcher but that took place in Maine and was mostly filmed in Canada... Hmmm I guess it would help if we knew if it was an older or newer film and if it was a short or full length, many of Kings books were turned in to short films and only ever seen in film festivals or on dvds.

My friend says she thought it was Stephen King movie, since she saw it on the SciFi channel (only watched part of it), and it followed a Stephen King movie. She thought they were showing a set of his movies, so made the assumption it was another from SK. However, it may not have been SK.

Mt. Whitney is visible in the desert scenes of "Ironman". They flipped it so the ridgeline is backwards - Lone Pine Peak is north of Mt. Whitney. Pretty easy to miss if you're not paying attention.

Well it's been a long time since I've seen The Thing so I can't say whether or not that heli-shot is in it. What I do know is that the Thing is not a Stephen King film. It's a John Carpenter remake of an old horror classic starring Kurt Russell. The only alpine heli-shot in a SK movie I know of is in the opening of The Shining. It's supposed to be somewhere in Colorado but is actually of the Going to the Sun road in Glacier NP

I didnt recognize any Stephen King movies in that list. But those seem to be ones that scenes were actually filmed there, requiring certain types of permits. If all it consisted of was helicopter shots thats just general photography and maybe not logged in the same manner.

Also, I have been to the mansion in Estes Park, CO. that supposedly inspired 'The Shining'. And no, there is no maze behind it......

The "Mansion" in Estes Park is actually the Stanley Hotel which was built by the family that made Stanley Steamer cars. It is not the hotel that is used in the Stanley Kubrick film with Jack Nicholson. It is the hotel that was used in the TV remake with Steven Weber in the Jack Torence role. The hotel used for the exterior shots in the Kubrick movie was the "Timberline Lodge" in the shadow of Mt. Hood in Oregon. The interiors are sets that were designed after the Ahwahnee Lodge in Yosemite. Sorry to get so off topic. I was just interested because I've lived in Estes Park and been to the Ahwahnee as well.
