I run a small business shuttling people between Mammoth Lks and wherever (Reno, LA, Vegas, SF...) in winter and trailheads in summer. I've lived in the Eastern Sierra for 23 years having moved here for the summer backpacking in '86 and never left.
In that time I've logged over half a million miles on Hwy 395 and had the job of training winter & summer bus drivers for the Mammoth Mt. Ski Area. Mammoth Shuttle rates are competitive and sometimes negotiable and based just below the old industry standard of 1$/mile - often cheaper if it is a new area or old favorite. All Q's welcome. There is a website called 14ers.com that has a forum with a thread found through: forum->USA other peaks->Mt Whitney Spring 2009. You might want to post this there as an option for some people who were talking about flying into the area. The site is Colorado oriented and most of the people there don't know much about California.

Thanks, Rolf. Maybe we can add a pointer to this information in the "Orientation notes" bus/train shuttle service section.

Do you take last-minute calls, or is it best to arrange a pickup in advance?

You also may want to leave your business card at the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitors Center. They get inquires from people all the time.
