Well, you're getting warmer.
Try Mosquito Flat, Little Lakes Valley trailhead, Mono Pass, and Pioneer Basin.

MooseTracks, Would love to come, but it's our annual family & friends camp for a week at Morro Bay State Park. Please post future trips, would love to meet fellow women hikers out there.
Happy Hiking!

Just gauging interest here:
LADIES ONLY Weekend
3-day, 2-night backpack I think maybe we could pool our kitchen and other pack stuff? That way we could really live it up?

Well...let's see. I have a jet boil personal cooker and the frying pan attachment. I guess maybe something along the lines of a "pot luck" dinner one night might be more appropriate? send me a pm or email we can discuss off line.

Hey Moosie Love... I know you've got 7000 other things going on... but can you give us a rough idea of mileage and gain/loss?
I have a friend who's a very casual flatlander hiker (from Texas) and she's looking for a good break (mostly from guys lol). I'm trying to guage to see help her see if she's up to this.
Thanks Dearie...

Good morning, Ladies! It's another besutiful day in paradise here, and I hope you don't think I've forgotten our upcoming trip! I was really swamped with getting ready for Shasta, and now I am prepping for a trip with my pop next week, but I was able to get some more information about the trip we have planned. I roughly measured out our hike in on Friday from Mosquito Flat to the first lake in the basin (western side of the basin) and it looks like about 8+ miles, 2700 vertical feet for the day. It's a big day. Most of the gain occurs initially to get over Mono Pass, but there is a climb at the end of the day after descending from the Pass to get back up into the Basin. We may choose to vary this, perhaps camping in the trees friday night (watching the weather, of course, too!), then moving up to the Basin on Saturday. There are a lot of named/numbered peaks in the area. I tried finding entries on summitpost.org for them, but apparently they don't rate pages there. So, in Secor, I was able to find breakdowns (albeit simple ones) of Mt. Huntington, Mt. Stanford (N), Mt. Crocker, and Mt. Hopkins. According to him, all of them are Class 1-2 from the Basin. I will be bringing my helmet, since even on such a low class of slope, there is a chance for rockfall. If you would like to attempt one or some of these with me, it would be great! I'll try to put up more info as I can find it. I climbed Mt. Starr yesterday, which looks down into the Basin from the south, and I was awed by the beauty of this place. I tried to take pictures of the trail as I went along, to give you all an idea of what it looks like. You can see the pics here. I like the idea of a potluck. I mean, really, who wouldn't??? We are in bear country, so cans are required. I'll probably fill up my big vault with all sorts of goodies. But then, that's normal on a Moose trip. I will also bring along my fishing pole (YAY!). We can figure out gear and food in the next few weeks. I will call the permit reservation office today to secure a permit for 10. Right now, I think there are 6 of us, but more may be lurking out there. Again, sorry there has been a delay in getting more information out there. Please let me know if you have any questions. -L

Um... I know we're going to be backcountry and all... fishing permits still required, right?

You guys are killin me. I'm down on sea level & my mouth is watering for more high alt hiking. I went out & ran up & down Iron Mnt. (its a baby hike) just to go play in the dirt.
Moosetracks has such a high level of ability, I start entertaining the thought of hiking with her & then remember she carried champagne & pancake fixins to the top of White Mnt just to watch the sunrise. I think I'd feel like a weeble next to you guys.
I have now sworn to level up so I can come play with you guys next year.

Carole... in absolutely no way should you feel "weeble" next to any of us... well.. 'cept maybe Moosie.. but she is such an awesome hiking partner. She has the ability to hike wiht ANY level hiker and is so much fun to be with. Believe me!! I love getting out there with her... so do my 12 and 13 yr old kids.
Come up with us... no body expects SuperWoman to be on this trip... we're just a bunch of friends going out to enjoy a love of the mountains together.
Where in San Diego do you live? My kids and I hit it out here all the time to "get in the dirt"... if you can hike with us you can hike with the Moosie!!!

Carole: Chris is right, there are no showings of Superwoman slated for this trip. I was just tired of only seeing the guys showing up at the group hikes, and wanted to try and get some of the ladies out there to have a good time. While this is not a "beginner" trip, nor am I touting this as a guided mission (all should be self-sufficient), if you would like to join us, then come along! We'll be watching each other, the weather, and the conditions and changing plans as we need to. Let me know. -L

Miss Moosie,
It is very reassuring to read this post! Your name came up over in my playground (yosemitenews.info)as there has been a marked change in my hiking goals over the last month or so, and one of the regulars suggested that I should meet up with the moosie. Your trip and weekend reports have inspired me to fall into a similar schedule, as I, too, am chasing after (yosemite) peaks just about every weekend, now (this last weekend was an overnighter on Watkins -- snow and all)I hope to attend your much anticipated girlie trip!

Bee: That's funny that I should be mentioned there. Last time I visited that forum looking for advice (October 2007, the loop from Mirror Lake over North Dome and down YF) I got a less-than-warm reception. Basically, I never went back there. -L

Miss Moosie, If you ever visit the Yosemite board again, and you are treated any less than the mountain goddess that you are, I will seriously kick some butt!! I started posting over there about 6 months ago, and my ignorance is unfortunately preserverd forever in a few threads (that no one will EVER let me forget)and the humor can get waaaay outta hand, however, I also met the best backpacking buddies in the world, (so now I have plans nearly every weekend) Happily awaiting new trip updates!
