What are the weather conditions like at New Army Pass in late June? My friend and I are planning a 4 day trip to Mount Langley. I’d appreciate any information. Thanks

I've been to Cottonwood Lakes/NAP/Mt. Langley every year in June for the last several years. I've seen warm temps and sun and I've seen hailstorms all in the same day.

My advice: It's way too early to tell. Be prepared for anything including below freezing temps at night and possible high winds.

Your biggest problem may be the mossies.

I think Cottonwood Lakes is where every mosquito in California was born.

Just look at the NWS forecast a day or two before you go. I have had nights over 50 and under 20 F this time of year in that area.

I went over the new army pass in 10th June, there were no considerably big snow packs until I got to the new army pass. And NO MOSQUITOES..!!!!! (yes, I was surprised) But the new army pass trail was under snow after about half way up the switchbacks, and I took an alternate route through the rocks climbing off trail. It was a little hard, but I didnt use anything other than my hiking poles. I went up to the Langley Base, (arnd 12500ft) and turned back because of the weather and anow (I didnt have crampons, ace axe or even water proof boots)

btw, Im going there tomorrow as well. Hope this time I can do it....!!!

Xcorat, thanks for the update and the video. It didnt look bad at all. How high were you when you took the video? At what altitude do you think you may have needed either crampons or an ice ax? thanks

I went up to around 12500ft. near the Langley base (right beneath the other peak which is ~12800ft) I thought if you are doing Langley you might, MIGHT need crampons around 13000-13500ft. But since it is very close to the summit, you might be able to do it without crampons..!
Im kinda newb on these, have never used crampons, so wait until I upload the other video n see for yourself....!
