I have 2 permits for day hikes on the 4th of July. My partner recently backed out, so I am currently going solo. I dont mind going solo, but it would be nice to have another person(s) to tag along with.

So anyone or any groups mind having another person tag along? Please let me know!

thx.

Normally I would love to jump on an open slot, but I'm going up on the 5th. If you don't mind, look me up when you get down and LMK how it went. I'll be in a 2008 Silver/Grey 2500HD GMC with a camper on the back. I hope to be parked pretty close to the trailhead. I'll keep a cold one in the fridge for you so we can toast to your sucuess!!............................DUG

Don't worry about hiking it by yourself. You're never alone on the main trail. There should be about a bazillion people hiking up and down that weekend.

OK, maybe I exaggerate a little, but there are a LOT of people on the Main trail in mid summer.

I had the same concern, but met several people on the trail. You will find yourself passing and getting passed by the same people over and over, and it leads to conversation. Think of it as an adventure!

You just gave up a beer you know! lol

Ya know, when people offer shit like this, a lot of times they just say it to say it. But I am gonna hold you to it, so be prepared to ante up!

I am gonna go out on a limb here and push my luck...but could you make it a wheat beer? LOL smile

Anyways, I was thinking of canceling my plane ticket from New Jersey, but you all talked me into going. Thank you.

So since I will be out that way by myself, anyone up for doing some hikes before the 4th? I plan on doing some acclimating hikes that were suggested to me by some others on this board, so if anyone wants to join me PLEASE PM me.

thanks again gang!

dave.

I did my first (and successful) climb solo on July 2nd three years back. There were a lot of people around. One thing I tried to be conscious of during that hike - since I was alone, I could not depend on anyone else to see how well or how badly I was doing. So, I tried to be very conservative all the time in assessing my physical condition and ability to get to the summit and back.

I flew in from NC by myself to climb Mount Whitney last year. It wasn't all bad being solo. I summited July 18, 2008 and I was the only one up there. It was warm, sunny and clear at 8:30 in the morning. Very surreal. After a while, someone else showed up and snapped my pic for me. Enjoy the solitude when you have it, and enjoy the company when you have it. You won't regret going!

Since i will be out there solo for a few days, if anyone wants to meet up for a beer, or a acclimating hike, or anything else, please let me know. maybe one of you can show an east coast person some of the local-hidden beauties of California! and when i mean local-hidden beauties, i mean nice hikes, places to see, and places to drink beer! lol

I hike solo.. the alternative (not going at all) is not acceptable to me. I meet people on the trail. I enjoy the conversations.

Just be careful, know your limitations.

No amount of critisism is going to make me stop hiking solo. Not to at least try to live up to my aspirations, I won't do that.

Look for the solo female hiker on the 4th... I hope to be on the trail somewhere...have permit, will hike cool

I'll see what I can dig up before I head up the hill. I'll make sure it's cold. On the 1% chance there's a campsite still availible on the 4th, I'll be in the family campground. Otherwise I'll be in the parking lot as near to the trail head as I can get...............................DUG

All packed and ready to go - except for Dave's beer. What's a good "wheat" beer? (I'm more of a rum guy being a sailor and all)

Anyone else gonna be hanging around the Portal on the 4th?

If I can't get a camp site then I assume my brother will want an early start - 0100 or 0200. Oh well, we'll get down sooner.....................................DUG

Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat! Like drinking a soda.
Any Hefeweizen is good (unfiltered wheat beer).
