Hi all,
Seeking advice from a few of you who have done most or all the routes up Gorgonio. Am planning a 2 day, 1 night trip up Gorgonio in mid-September with my father. I have already done Vivian Creek and North Fork and am looking for a new route to do with the following criteria:

- something not too difficult. (This'll be my father's first multi-day mountain climb.)
- a route that has a great place to camp midway up the mountain.
- a route that is typically not too populated.
- a route with spectacular views.

Please write back with some of your favorites.
Thanks so much!
Nathan

Fish Creek Trail is a great way to do Gorgonio. An easy day up to Fish Creek Saddle for the overnite, then the summit next day and back to the trailhead. If you want more details, email separate. I'm sure your Dad will enjoy this great trail!

Try posting this on the San Gorgonio Wilderness Association website. You'll probably get more local advice:

http://www.sgwa.org/

Try:
South Fork with overnight at Dry Lake;
South Fork to High Meadow Springs (camp there);
Fish Creek (as mentioned above);
Vivian Creek with stop at High Creek.

Alternate would be San Bernardino Peak with an overnight at Limber Pine Bench. Not the highest peak in the range, but great views over the San Bernardino Valley most of the way up after getting above the treeline.

San Bernadino Peak trail from Angelus Oaks is very nice trail with a fair amount of shade, camping options and water, but check the San Gorgonio wilderness website for water availability, the streams tend to peter out in July.

Once you reach the peak, you can follow the ridge all the way to San Gorgonio -- park a car at Vivian Creek trail head to make it a shuttle hike.

In September water should still be available at Mine Shaft Flat and that's a really nice camping spot if you're doing San Gorgonio via the Fish Creek Trail.
