My wife and I stayed at one of those "cabins" in September 2006. A co-worker of my wife's had a friend who had a cabin. Very nice. The stairway to the loft was precarious since you had to ascend/descend sideways (no railings either). Was worse after the hike when legs and knees were sore. They appear to be summer retreats for the owners to enjoy on their time on their dime. I guess you don't hear of them being rented because of a liability issue in case something happens. Nonetheless, if you happen to see an owner in the area, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.
