To hikers exiting Kearsarge Pass for resupply, be informed there is no grocery store in Independence. Nearest grocery store is in Lone Pine, 15 miles to the South.
The Independence Chevron station next to the Subway has a fairly well stocked food mart that carries non-perishables and refrigerated items such as prepared sandwiches, cheese, salami, ice cream, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, etc.
