Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Mt. Whitney Portal Store Message Board July 2-6 PCT/Mt. Whitney trip

Hi all - thought I'd post pictures of my son & my trip which was highlighted by summitting Mt. Whitney. Most of the pictures are from our hike from Horseshoe Meadows to Trail Pass on the PCT, to Chicken Spring Lake to Guyot Creek to Guitar Lake, then up & over. The thing I wish we could have taken a picture of was the hurricane force wind at Trail Camp the night of 7/5. Also, we couldn't believe how easy it was to get a ride down to HM Rd. and up to HM; our total wait time was around 15 minutes. This was by far the most memorable trip that Zack & I have taken. Thanks for all the tips & advice I gleened off this message board. Dan

How much snow did you encounter on the trail. The photos seem to show very little. Did you need crampons or axes? Sweet marmot shots!

Very little snow - maybe 30 yds before the turn up to the hut on Whitney, and 100' in 3 stretches on the ridge below Trail Crest. We used crampons there in caution of the steep, long slide down the mtn if we slipped - most people didn't use them & did fine.
