Has anyone been over (old) Army Pass lately? We're taking a couple of 13 year olds on Tuesday and wonder if the snow has cleared. Thanks.

Here is a link to an article in today's OC Register regarding this incident:

Very sad... my condolences to the families and friends.

Still alot of unanswered questions...

A helicopter flew out of that are yesterday too, but I don't know what happened. New Army Pass was clear of snow yesterday and Old Army certainly had a pretty sketchy section to deal with still.

Be safe - go over New Army Pass.

Very sad story--

Two years ago I climbed Old Army in the early am while the ground was still solid and on the way down hit a patch of melted snow/dirt and slid ten feet. I was able to get back to the ridge but spent a very cold night stranded near Cirque Peak.

I always knew how lucky I was and this story reminded me.

I feel for those involved.

Mike and I were at the top of Army Pass at 1:08pm. We did not see anyone at the top of the pass at that time.

This is one of those things that makes you wonder why you didn't see the group lingering above the pass. Maybe we could have helped.

Sorry to hear about it.
