Richard P and GigaMike were kind enough to show me the way up the Mountaineer’s Route. I can't thank them enough. Mike never ceases to amaze me with the speed at which he can travel uphill, though I suspect Richard could match him if he wanted to; he was being gentlemanly and making sure I did not fall to my death, thus bringing up the rear, so to speak.

We ended up doing a "doubler"! Mt. Muir was an added bonus. My legs were jello but how often would I get a chance to hike with two Mountaineering Hunks? Thanks doubly to Richard and Mike.

Thank you to those others on this board for their kindness and generosity in helping to make my 2009 Mt. Whitney aspirations a success. Particularly Doug Sr, Earlene, Bob R. and Dave the Marine Pilot. I never thought I would realize a perfect trifecta in 2009, so thank you all for your kind support.

1) May 29 solo overnight MT
2) July 4 solo MT dayhike
3) Aug 15 MR dayhike, Mt. Muir added bonus!!!

It was a fun time seeing two "newbies" (Nat joined us from the Notch and also did Muir with us.) make the summit of Whitney!

So many cool people on the mountain on Saturday!

I'll post more later.

Hey Richard

We ran into Mike on the way down and I told him you were waiting. Hopefully you two found each other. Great to have run into you on the mountain. I will be back Oct 16th to do the MR and Russell. And the more I thought about it we did run into each other on Whitney last year as I remember our online chat after wards.

BTW--tried to PM you but you are over your limit. You must be a popular guy

How long does it take (assuming good route finding) to climb Mt Muir from the Main Trail? I have a friend who's doing a dayhike on Sept. 6.

Maybe an hour at the most.

It took us 2 hrs, although I am sure I could do it a second time in 30 mins. We turned north and up from the main trail (doing Muir on the way up) too soon, and did a bunch of 3rd class scrambling. Then the last 80ft of vertical is actual 3rd class only if you are correctly on route, it is easy to miss this line if you are not an experienced rock climber (and my two partners were not, thus I had to talk them thru it from above). Have fun.

Brain to left hand:

PULL BACK! PULL BACK! This is not your wife!

This happened at least a couple of times as we passed the more "technical" sections of the MR. I instinctively put a hand up for spotting purposes. With my wife, I would have made physical contact. I probably would have enjoyed this just as much. blush

Tracie, you rock! I am so inspired... congrats doesn't even cover it. You should be so proud that you met your 2009 trifecta. Well done (very nice that Richard and Mike accompanied you on the MR). Whoo hoo! cool

p.s. I remember last Sept. (Dragon) when you told me you were hoping to summit Mt. Whitney... You outdid yourself. smile

LOL, the big booty was slowly hauling itself up the long slog...I made some rather strange moves, that's for sure!

What a great day on the mountain(s) with fantastic climbing partners!

Tracie- Thanks for all the kind words. We might of "guided" you up the mountain, but you did all the hard work. A dayhike up the MR and tagging Muir on the way down AND back in time for dinner at the portal, it doesn't get much better than that! grin

Nat- It was great meeting and climbing with you.

Richard- Don't worry, I deleted all the pictures where it looks like your touching Blooty's booty wink

Lori- Thanks for the 411 on Richard's location. Sorry I couldn't stay and chat a little longer. We were a little behind schedule crazy

rruby- It took the 4 of us about 45 minutes for the round trip up Muir. It is 3rd class and a little harder than anything on the MR (imo). Muir is pure climbing fun.

I'm uploading my pictures right now and will post a link when they are up.

I'm going to be throwing some of the highlights of this weekend into my 13@14 Blog, so I'll just restate that this was a lot of fun that started with "When are you going to take me up the MR?" I don't even know if Tracie was asking the question seriously, but I followed up and she proved she's got what it takes...

Tracie on the Buttress Approach.

Tracie climbing the Final 400'.

Nat climbing out of Wayne's Chimney. THE safest exit on the MR.

Plenty more photos of Blooty's booty, Mike, Nat, Dave, wildflowers and the glory of the Sierra.

Oh, BTW, thanks for letting me look taller in all the photos of us.

Congrats Blooty (& Nat ?) on your 1st MR and Muir, great stuff! Plus putting up with those two hooligans (RP & GM) earns you bonus points wink

Richard, great photos as usual. What… no clouds at all…surprising after all the weird weather the Sierra have been experiencing this year. Also, the duct tape on your boots reminds me of the ol’ “Red Green” show where he uses duct tape to fix any and everything. smile

Lori, I didn't mean to ignore you... I'm old, I forget.

It was nice running into your group on Sunday morning. Thanks for taking the message down to Mike. We slo(u)gged our way up to the summit of Lone Pine Peak, arriving very late in the afternoon.

Have fun on the MR and Russell.

The best way to contact me is via e-mail. My address is available in my profile.

Rick, I was hoping I could go thru the summer with one pair of boots. I thought the duct tape might extend their life by a few weeks. Unfortunately, I've started taking in dust and small rocks thru a hole in the right boot. Oh well, I guess I need to check the Big 5 sales for another pair of Hi Tecs. Very comfortable boots!

Love Red Green!!! Every time I use duct tape for a "creative" fix, I think of that show...

Same question... Maybe next spring? whistle wink smile

p.s. The only things I could offer for what would be a very long day is a positive attitude and espresso (mini espresso maker).
