I'll try to keep this short... whistle As some of you know, I'm kind of in limbo right now regarding making plans. We just sold our house (in escrow) and with the extra month we negotiated to rent back from the buyers, our move date is end of October. So, we'll be packing up to move to a rental along with commencing the building of our new home the latter part of Oct. I was originally hoping to come down end of Sept/beginning of Oct. (combining my Sierra time with a family trip to OC). That being said... where there is a will, there is usually a way. I cannot believe that Rosie has just offered to allow me to car pool with her!!! Rosie, I'll pm you with my e-mail address. Depending on how many days you plan on being away... this might just work! Sidenote: We live in such close proximity... must hike together! smile

I would like to ride with someone or have passangers for my truck. I am near Santa Rosa CA and can meet up anywhere. Most likely 120 will be closed so I will need to travel through Tahoe area, up along I-80/US-50.

Wow I go hiking for the weekend and come back to two full pages of posts. Cool. Hey Tom, I'm so in. I'm pretty sure that Carole will be in with me. We were just talking about this on our hike.
You can add one more chick to this hike. wink

Based on the numbers - probably will have at least 2 groups with different routes. I may lead smiley and then someone else(possibly Richard) could lead a SE culour route. Likewise we would have different routes down - possible I will come down the secret route to LBSL.

In talking to Doug Sr., he intends on leading a small group up a modified version of the Secret Route.

He also mentioned that he might head up and fix a handline on the "Muir Crack" (South side route) for those interested in having a go at that.

Some of his other comments:

- We pick a time to meet at the top for the memorial so that faster climbers can start up later and people who don't go fast can leave at an appropriate time to make the top by the agreed to time.

- We keep the groups small so that rockfall, etc won't be an issue.

I was thinking in terms of getting Rick Graham to lead a small group of us up Stemwinder, but if that doesn't work out, I'd be more than happy to lead a group up. If it's going to be one of the loose routes though, I'd prefer the Mirror Lake Route. (This only requires a few Class 3 moves to get it done.)

Jeff M also stated that he'd be interested in leading a group.

Dang! (and various other cursing noises)

I'm out. I'll be babysitting a with a 1 week old, new niece that week.

If Rick can't do it, I might be able to lead a *small*, (qualified) group up Stemwinder. Still gotta clear that date, though.

Hi Dave -

Why not coordinate with Rick and advise if one of both of you will be on this route to lead. While I would like to join you and do this route, my place on this trip is with Route Option A(Smiley Face up - Secret Route down). I think your Stemwinder should be route Option C. Likewise I would I will refer all inquiries to you for proper screening. Route Option B is still to be determined for leaders, etc.

I like Richard's idea of agreeing on a meeting time on the summit. This way each leader can chose start time for his group. I think 1pm for the summit is a good time. For my starting group I think 7am to start. This allows 6 hours to summit and should be doaable by all wanting to make the summit.

Probably enough time to have breakfast in town before the hike.

More details to follow - Tom

Rick is in, so we have two capable leaders. Mike and I are two "followers" so far. Arthur would make 3.

I watched this event with envy over the past few years. Sure wish it could be planned outside of the school year, so those of us who live far away could make it some day...

Looks like a good turnout. Besides the small group doing Stemwinder, we will still have enough to have two separate groups. Should be a fun day on the summit.

Also - need to know who is going to be in town Friday.
Need to be able to pick up permits for our groups.
Richard has already stated he will be up Friday and can pick up permits for at least partial of the group.

Attention !!!!!
Need volunteer(s) to lead group.

Group sizes are limited by regulations to no more than 15 - so we definately need someone to lead up a route. This can be a alternate route or just an alternate start time.

The plan is for all groups to meet on the summit at 1pm.
Group leaders should be familiar with the route they lead as well as approximate allowable hike times.

I will be starting a group via the Smiley Face route at 7am. This will be a relaxed pace group. Allowing 6 hours to reach the summit should make for a comfortable pace. I will be hiking with my Rhino Garmin as well - so anyone bringing radios will be able to stay in contact(monitoring channel 7.0)

1 month to go - anticipating a fun day !!!
