Nine of us are pleased to say that we made it to the summit on August 10. We all started out at 3:00AM from Whitney Portal, and we were all down by 6:00PM. Eight of us were first-timers, and probably last-timers as well since we found the hike rather grueling! Keys to our success were teamwork; positive outlooks; doing training hikes to Baldy, Jacinto and peaks in the San Gabriel Wilderness; good nutrition and hydration; and simply putting one foot in front of the other. I was the oldest in the group, and will be rewarding myself with a license frame that says "Mt. Whitney; Grandma Made It In A Day." Thanks to all the nice people at the portal store, to the pancake chef, and to the many friendly fellow hikers. You are great!

Congratulations to all of you!

Last time? Hah, you'll be back for another "pilgrimmage." wink

Trust me. whistle

John Muir was right: "The mountains are calling and I must go."

Look forward to reading another TR next year!

Have fun.

Congratulations to all nine! You did it right; from the positive outlooks all the way to putting one foot in front of the other. Well done. smile Sounds like a perfect hike of Whitney!
