Hello all -

I've been lurking on this forum for a while in anticipation of hiking Mt. Whitney over labor day weekend. As I am up to my eyeballs in gear trying to organize and pack I do have a question.

The hike up Mt. Whitney will be the highlight of a weeklong camping trip in the area. Thus I will arrive at the trailhead with plenty of camping gear.

I am wondering whether there are storage facilities or lockers I can rent out. I'm cautious about leaving items in my truck - all will be easily visible to bears, either inside the cab, or completely exposed in the bed. The storage would hopefully fit a medium size cooler, a foldable camping chair and a small bag of extra clothes.

I vaguely remember seeing something about trailhead storage on this forum a while back, but can't seem to locate the information.

Thanks you all.

There are plenty of bear boxes near the trail head that are there for common use. There are no storage lockers for rent. The bear boxes are big enough for a small cooler, but they are frequently full. Keeping stuff in the cab of your truck may be risky. The bears will be able to see it, and may try to get inside. If anything is scented, you are more likely to have damage to your truck. You should find a lot of posts on this site if you do a search. I don't know of any storage lockers in town either.

Put the chair and clothing in the cab of the truck.

If the cooler is empty, you could put it in the back, lid open or off.
