Three of us spent three days in the Whitney basin, doing some climbing and reacting to whatever. Pictures here.

Those interested in details of the route on Mt. Muir can fast-forward to pictures 89 - 125. For the assistance we gave to folks in trouble, to pictures 131 - 167.

Also got a few neat shots, including this double sunrise at Trail Camp:

These are great pics. They provide a nice and tantalizing preview of what to expect next week (minus the rescue, hopefully). Thanks for posting.

Now back to sorting through gear.

Great photodocumentation as always, Bob!

couple of questions:

You were operating as a volunteer Ranger, and I think people would enjoy hearing how you are finding that experience?

Also, wearing the "colors", I'm wondering how you noticed the difference in how people reacted/interacted with you?

The documentation of the Rescue was great, would I be correct in assuming that you provided a lot more preventative guidance while you were up there, as well?

I ask, as others who may consider such things may find your answers helpful.

Ken, I gave some of the answers in another thread. But I will say that I'm a little uncomfortable being in focus. My style is to hang in the background, and that's hard to do with sunlight glinting off the brass.

Regarding preventative guidance, I have never been a shrinking violet when it comes to advising someone he will get in trouble unless he alters course. Like a few weeks ago when I told a fellow "You will die if you continue up in these conditions!" Rangers have to be a little more politic, and I need to learn to pick my words more carefully.

Thank, Bob. I'm very interested to see how the experiment works!
