Brett Maune did the JMT in a new fastest (supported or unsupported) time of 3d14h13m from the Portal to Yosemite, during Sept. 3-6, 2009. Was anyone on the trail during this time & if so did you see or not see Brett? Here's a picture:

Ian Alloway was also on the trail at that time going for a fast time.
Please contact me if you have info either way.

I was on the JMT northbound from the junction with the Woods Creek trail (near Castle Domes) at 0800 on the 5th until 1030 on the 6th when I turned south down the Middle Fork.

The speed racers were probably already past me during that time.

I only wish I could go that fast for that distance. As it is 76 miles kicked my..........................................DUG

I didn't see or hear of him. Are you asking because your trying to verify his story? Was it supported or unsupported? Magg

Hi Ian posted his time as 101 Hours-05 minutes unsupported, I talked with him and his parents at the Portal. Also heard of two hikers doing the PCT IN 64 DAYS ON A LARK unsupported started planning in April but you know these records only hold if someone has done them faster and thought they were slow so didn't bother to tell anyone . Thanks Doug

Basically, yes. Strangely, Ian & Brett were gunning for
the unsupported record at the same time. Ian left the
summit of Mt Whitney 1 hour after Brett, at first light
on Sept3. Some people have reported seeing Ian on the
trail. He finished just 20 minutes under the old record,
while Brett reported breaking the old unsupported record
by over 19 hours. If you were on the trail, would you
mind taking a look at Brett's splits to see if you might
have been in the same place at the same time, or if maybe
he went by your camp at night. He posted his splits at
the following forum, note that he started at Whitney
Portal at 12:45am on 9/3:
